About this site
Who writes this
I'm Creig Boyd Jr., and I've worked in the building trades in Massachusetts for more than 20 years. I also run PrimeFix Solutions (home repair and seasonal maintenance in Essex County, Massachusetts) and TheHandyDev (websites for tradespeople).
I trained as a carpenter at Whittier Regional Vocational Technical High School (class of 1992) and started out as a locksmith, working on locks and security hardware for homes, businesses and vehicles for about eight years. After that I spent fifteen years framing and finishing new homes, from the foundation to the roof, and then seven years in landscaping: mulching, seasonal cleanups and snow removal. Most recently I maintained several commercial buildings, doing the routine inspections, repairs and preventive maintenance that keep problems from getting bigger. I've completed OSHA 10 safety training, and it shapes how I write these guides.
That mix is why you'll find doors, hardware, walls, decks, gutters, yards and seasonal jobs here. They are the things I know best from the work.
How these guides are made
Home repair advice online is often written by people who have never held the tool. I want these guides to read like what I would tell a neighbor standing in the kitchen.
- Drafts get help. First drafts are prepared with the help of AI writing tools. I then check every step against what I know from the work, fix what is wrong, and add what the draft missed.
- Nothing is published until I have reviewed it. I read each guide, correct it against what I know from the work, and add my review date. Guides without a review date do not appear on the site.
- Every guide says when to stop. Each one ends with a plain list of the signs that mean you should put the tools down and call a professional.
- Dangerous work is not taught here. I do not write how-to guides for gas, the inside of your electrical panel, structural changes, or anything that can seriously hurt you.
How the site earns money
The site does not show any ads at the moment.
Some guides link to PrimeFix Solutions, which I own. If you hire them, I benefit, and I say so each time. I only add those links where PrimeFix Solutions really does the work, and never for regulated trades such as electrical, gas and most plumbing, which must be done by licensed professionals.
Corrections
If you find a mistake, or something unsafe, please tell me at hello@primefix.vip. I take safety corrections seriously and fix them quickly.
